Executive Scrutiny Committee Agenda

Cabinet Decision 13/03/2008

SBC officers have ignored the peoples choice as well as recommendations by their own Scrutiny Committee and recommended the home closes. This was upheld by the Cabinet despite the case to stay open being fought by local SBC and Thornaby TIA councillors, VPRA, James Wharton, family members and staff from the home.

The fight still goes on so watch this space for news in the very near future.

If you would like to comment or state your views there are several ways you can do this:

You can send your comments to NWA, an Independent Research Organisation, on:  Business Reply Service M1762, NWA Market Research, PO Box 309, Stockton TS20 1BR

There will also be a meeting at The South Thornaby Community Centre Havilland Road on February 14th at 6pm should you wish to come along in person.

The VPRA were in evidence at all of the meetings and feel that SBC officers were not acting for the People of Thornaby but for SBC the business.

Our latest letter:-

To all Stockton Borough Councillors

With reference to the review of Parkview Care Home which is now coming to an end

Thank you to Cabinet for the inclusion of the Scrutiny Committee as part of the review process but the general consensus amongst families, local residents and attendees at the meetings is that the whole process is tainted From the outset we were given what we deem as misinformation about the meetings and venues .Originally all of the meetings were supposed to be in South Thornaby Community Centre (Opposite end of town to the home) then the daytime meetings were moved to Robert Atkinson Centre but this was not made public until officers were asked to clarify the details.

At the public meeting officers (yes they are doing their job, a well paid one)came across as arrogant and patronising in what for some was a very emotive session.

Questions asked by Steve Walmsley and James Wharton were just talked over and an answer was never given.

Questions by residents families were always answered with "if and when the home closes"........

Questions were asked about if and when the decision to close the home (there was no rebuttal that it may stay open) how would they resettle a 101 year old frail lady. Her granddaughters asked the question but were told more than once that SBC have a good record in resettlement and she would be given a choice of where she will go. There was never the option that the home may still stay open so she will not need to move.

There was even a quote from one officer that if the home is closed because of a POLITICAL decision no change of use or sale of land has been decided yet. We hope that the POLITICAL decision referred to is not a Stockton one.

The longer the meeting went on the more people were convinced the officers were paying lip service to the public with the general feeling that they have already made up their minds as to what to take to Cabinet .

Next time SBC have a review maybe it should be of some of their own officers and systems , then we may have a council influenced by councillors and not by some of its officers.

The fight goes on and the guarantee of a full house for Cabinet is assured.

Regards

The Management Committee.

Village Park residents Association.
