Dear Peter,
Many thanks for your considered response to a very emotive subject. If I could clarify the position, as it currently stands, it may help your Association.
The Council's Forward Plan is a means by which Council Members, and others, can see the items that are to be considered by Cabinet in the coming months, thereby giving an opportunity to comment and participate in any debate.
The current Forward Plan contains the following item.
Review of Park View Care Home.
To consider the policy, demographic and service provision and financial factors impacting on the current and future provision for Park View Care Home. Consider the options and approve further work being undertaken to produce a detailed set of recommendations.
Method of Consultation - Meetings.
Principle Consultees - Staff and Unions
Service Users and Carers
Councillors
As Leader of the Council I can confirm that I have not, as yet, seen a copy of the report but the purpose of the submission to Cabinet will be to approve the commencement of a very comprehensive consultation process which will produce the evidence on which Cabinet can review the future care provision at Park View.
I have no doubt that various groups will endeavour to make this a political issue but I am determined that this process should be managed in a very mature manner for the benefit of the elderly residents at the home, their families and our staff. As local representatives of the Community, in the vicinity of the home, your Association should be involved in this consultation and I will ensure that this is the case.
I hope this clarifies the procedure and no doubt we will be in further discussion as we move forward into the formal consultation process, if approved by Cabinet in December.
Regards,
Ken Lupton
